Redstate Co-Founder Voting McCain? NOPE!

Crossposted at Motley Moose and DailyKos.

Heh.  You read me right.  Ha, ha, ha, ha!  Joshua Trevino, co-founder of the conservative blogging flagship site Redstate can't pull the trigger for the McCain/Palin ticket.

He says:

In the end, I couldn't do it. My California ballot arrived in the mail today, and I opened it fully intending to vote for John McCain. I filled out the state propositions first -- yes on 8, no on everything proposing a new bond or new spending -- then the local offices, straight Republican excepting Kevin Johnson for (nonpartisan) Sacramento mayor.

Finally, the vote for President of the United States: an academic exercise in California, where Barack Obama will surely win by a crushing margin. But good citizenship demands voting as if it matters.

Do I believe in John McCain? Not as much as I used to.

Do I believe in Sarah Palin? Despite my early enthusiasm for her, now not at all.

Do I believe in the national Republican Party? Not in the slightest -- even though I see no meaningful alternative to it.

So, my choice for President in 2008, scrawled in my ballot as an act of futile protest, is Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.  If nothing else, I am confident this is the first of several votes I will cast for him in years to come.

Emphasis mine.  Granted he's in San Francisco (which embarrasses me as a native Californian), so he can afford a protest vote.  Still, it's saying something that this guy (of all people) can't get behind McCain, not even with winks and starburst smiles from Hockey Puck.

Anyone else feeling good about November?

I grew up in California.  If the law hasn't changed, he invalidated his ballot.  California used to have (and may still have) a law that one has to be a registered write-in candidate to be written in.  Writing in a name that isn't registered invalidates the entire ballot (or it used to, anyway.)

You're correct.  There are forms to fill out to declare a "Write-In Candidacy".

Re: The WHOLE ballot? (2.00 / 3)

I believe it actually doesn't.  My understanding is that if you voted in a way that is invalid in one part of your ballot, the rest of it would still be counted.  The particular vote is invalidated, but the ballot is not.

I checkd out the Sec. of State website, and I can't find a citation for where that would be true.

Maybe Jindal could've exorcised away all those Bad Economy Demons. Trevino may be on to something.

Anyone else feeling good about November? Wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope we all have reason to give extra thanks this year.

good about Washington; stressed about... (none / 0)

feel great about the White House and the House of Representatives, and good about the Senate (60 sure would be nice).

Abit stressed that Prop 8 (marriage discrimination) and Prop 4 (anti-abortion) have a narrow lead in the polls, thanks to millions of $ in donations from out-of-state extremists.

No on 8 needs your help!

Feeling really good here. (2.00 / 1)

In my little enclave here in the I-4 corridor of Florida, my upper middle class white community of 400 residences, which voted for Bush in the past two elections, has 19 Obama-Biden lawn signs but only 6 McCain-Palin signs.

I overheard a conversation between two obviously Republican voters in a local convenience store-- they're NOT VOTING because "we got two bad choices".

Enthusiasm is very low in traditionally Republican strongholds in the Tampa Bay area.

All we need now is to TURN OUT THE VOTE.  Truly exciting!!

Re: Feeling really good here. (2.00 / 0)

And remember, with Obama yard signs so hard to get... one Obama sign is worth twice or three times as much as a McCain sign.

I enjoy the sign wars!  I like seeing the house with the Obama signs, and their neighbors placing their McCain signs in a way that seems very angry... like, "Take that, hippie!"... trying to block the view of the Obama sign, or at least overstate it in some way...

Re: Redstate Co-Founder Voting McCain? NOPE! (2.00 / 0)

I had a conservative friend tell me today that he's writing in "nobody" for president on the ballot... I was pleased!  He was a National Review type of Republican, but the modern republican party has decided to alienate him along with so many other voting demographics...

Can't help but believe that the Republicans just don't want the reigns of government right now, given the failure of their supply side economic agenda since Reagan.

Let the Democrats clean up the mess we made and when they fail, we return. Republicans are calling a timeout while the economy mends so that they can come back and take over once again.

Folks, we are going back to old England again when they had only two classes: rich and poor, with only a few in between.
